Need a hand with Between Days? Email support@betweendays.net. The app is developed and operated by Ruxue Gou (苟儒雪), an independent developer based in China.

Find your way around the room

Open Moments from the large photo cabinet, Settings from the key rack, Reminders from the calendar, Questions from the book beside the cat, and On this day from the frame on the small table. The room has no bottom tab bar. Use the top-left back arrow or swipe right from the left edge to return; inside a section, go back one page at a time.

Moments keeps search and the calendar switch at the top. Filter by tag inside search, add tags to records, and manage them in Settings.

Name your home

Open Settings → Home name to edit Name and Ending. Both are custom text, sharing a limit of 20 visible characters; Ending can be empty. Save applies the change. Closing the panel or tapping outside cancels unsaved edits. Use Miso’s place restores the default home title.

Record a moment

Use the capture button on Home or the input area in Moments. Write something, add photos or record a voice note. Photos can accompany text or a recording. Tags and reminders are optional. Your unfinished text is saved locally so you can return to it later.

Use Moments to browse, search or open the calendar. Open a saved moment to read it, then tap the pencil to edit its text, tags, media or reminder.

Answer a question again over time

Open Questions from the book beside the cat. Swipe through the cards or use List to choose a question. You can add, edit or remove questions, including your own prompts.

A question with no answers opens the writing page. For one you have answered before, view its dated answers and tap Answer today to add another. Answers can include text, photos and audio. Tap Save to keep an answer: it also appears in Moments as the same record, not a second copy. You do not need to answer every day.

Removing a question does not delete answers already saved in Moments. To delete an answer, delete the corresponding moment. Questions is free.

Make a memory book

  1. Open Settings → Data & storage → Memory books.
  2. Choose dates and optional tags, then tap Show records. The results include text, photos and voice recordings, including answers to Questions.
  3. Choose which records to include. Tap Preview book in the fixed bottom bar; you do not need to scroll to the end of the list.
  4. Review the pages, then use Export PDF to save, share or print through iOS.

Book options lets you change the title, cover photo, layout and paper size. You can leave the defaults as they are. Selecting records and previewing the book are free; exporting your own PDF requires active Plus access or an active seven-day trial. You can also open a fictional sample without changing your journal.

PDFs include selected text, photos, existing transcripts and recording details. They do not contain playable audio; Export moments below includes original recordings in a readable ZIP. PDFs have no password protection. Anyone with a saved or shared copy can read it, and deleting the source moments does not remove that copy.

Arrange your room

Open the suitcase at the lower left of Home to choose room items, then tap Done to save. Free access allows up to three displayed items. Plus adds six exclusive items and increases the display limit to five. Some free keepsakes are earned while using the app and appear after they are unlocked. Your room arrangement is a setting on this device and does not sync through iCloud.

Statistics or Data & storage?

Settings → Statistics shows recording trends over the past 7 or 30 days (7 days by default), with text, photos and voice on the same chart. Touch the chart to explore a date. Each included moment counts once by its primary type: photos first, then voice, then text. Mood capture is currently unavailable, and historical mood-only moments are excluded from statistics but remain saved. The three type counts add up to the period total.

Settings → Data & storage contains iCloud sync, export and deletion. It shows an estimate of original media size and attachment counts on this iPhone. The estimate excludes previews and the database; photo and voice counts here count attachments, rather than moments containing that type.

Tags in Statistics

Statistics shows up to five tags below your daily trend. Tap See all for the top fifteen tags in the selected period. Any remaining tag uses are grouped as Other; tap it to see those tags. Each tag is counted once per moment, so a moment with several tags contributes to several counts. Untagged moments are not part of Other.

Export your moments

  1. Open Settings → Data & storage → Export moments.
  2. Read the short notice and choose Export ZIP.
  3. Let the export prepare while you continue using the app. Progress appears in Data & storage; you can stop it if needed.
  4. When it is ready, a panel opens at the bottom of the screen. Choose Share at the bottom of the panel, then use the iOS share sheet to save the file or choose a destination.

After unzipping, start with Moments.txt. It contains your saved text, questions, answers, tags and existing recording transcripts, with each attachment listed beside its record. Open Originals/Photos to view photos or Originals/Recordings to play or share audio. File names use the capture date and time plus entry and attachment numbers. Only folders that have files are included.

The JSON files in Originals preserve structured data; Data/Previews contains smaller photo previews. You do not need these to read your moments. Question definitions, including unanswered questions, and retained Stories records from earlier versions are included. Unsaved drafts are excluded. Original photos and recordings are kept without re-encoding.

For a document with photos arranged alongside your text, use Memory books to export a PDF with Plus. PDFs include existing recording transcripts and details, not playable audio. The free ZIP keeps the original recordings as separate audio files.

The ZIP has no password and is not encrypted, so save it somewhere you trust. Exporting does not remove your records. Stopping the export or dismissing the completed export removes its temporary file, not your journal. Sharing starts only when you choose it.

This is a readable copy for use outside Between Days. The current app does not import this ZIP back into its journal. There is no fixed total export-size limit, but you need enough free device storage for the ZIP. Keep the phone unlocked until preparation finishes. If export is interrupted or fails, your existing records remain in place; unlock the phone, check available storage and retry. Contact support if it continues to fail, without attaching the private ZIP.

Sync with iCloud

Open Settings → Data & storage → iCloud sync, turn on the switch and confirm what will sync. Use the same Apple Account on your devices. Keep the app open and unlocked while it syncs; use Sync now to retry and check the status or last-sync time.

Saved moments and their media, transcripts, tags, question definitions and the prompt attached to each answer sync. Previously confirmed action items and retained Stories data from earlier test versions remain compatible with sync. Local reminders, drafts, API keys and device settings, including your room arrangement, do not sync. If you approved an older sync scope, update all your devices and confirm the scope that includes Questions before syncing resumes. Tap the information button for details about privacy and turning sync off.

Turning sync off keeps existing copies. Turning it back on can apply changes and deletions made while it was off. Deletions also sync, so iCloud sync is not a separate backup. If a conflict produces a copy, review both versions before deleting either.

If sync cannot run, check the message in the app, your Apple Account's iCloud availability, connectivity and available iCloud storage. Do not uninstall the app to troubleshoot a journal you have not safely copied elsewhere.

Move to a new iPhone

Restore an encrypted whole-device backup. Update Between Days on your old iPhone and open it once while unlocked, then make a new iCloud device backup or encrypted Finder backup that includes the app. Restore that backup to the new iPhone using the same Apple Account. The backup carries your Moments and the journal keys needed to open them; you do not need to import a ZIP. This can restore local Moments even if you did not enable the app's iCloud sync. Backups made before opening the updated app may lack transferable journal keys. An unencrypted computer backup is not a supported way to move those keys. See Apple's backup restoration instructions.

Install again with iCloud sync. If you previously enabled the current sync scope for the same Apple Account, a new installation automatically enables sync when Apple's saved consent preference arrives and downloads the records already in iCloud. Open Between Days while connected and unlocked and allow time for the preference, records and media to arrive. Before moving, check that the old device has finished syncing; records that never uploaded cannot be recovered through sync alone. If automatic sync has not started, check Settings → Data & storage → iCloud sync and enable it there.

A device where you explicitly turned sync off stays off. Turning sync off also clears the account's automatic-sync preference for future installations. Changing to another Apple Account does not move the old account's journal; sign back into the original account to use its cloud copy. Restore Purchases restores Plus access, not journal records.

Where did the AI features go?

AI is not included in this release. The chat icon, AI settings and action-item extraction buttons are hidden, and AI requests are disabled. There is no setting to turn them back on. Your cat's local interactions, recording, search and statistics continue to work.

If you used an earlier test version, updating keeps your existing moments, confirmed action items and saved AI configuration. Stored API keys are not used for requests, and the earlier key-management screen is unavailable. AI may be reconsidered for a later release; no features, release date or paid plan are promised.

Voice transcription and reminders

Transcription is available only when your device and language support on-device recognition. It does not switch to an online transcription service when unavailable.

Open Reminders from the Home calendar or To-dos in Settings. Tap an item to read its moment, then use the pencil to edit the reminder. Notifications require iOS permission; check Settings → Notifications if they are not appearing.

Notifications may show a record or transcript excerpt, or describe its media. To hide lock-screen previews, use iPhone Settings → Notifications → Between Days → Show Previews. Delivery can also be affected by Focus and other iOS settings. Reminders stay on the device where you set them; iCloud sync and export do not recreate them on another device.

Delete records

Delete individual moments from their detail view. To clear the moments currently stored on this iPhone, open Settings → Data & storage → Delete all moments and read the confirmation carefully.

This also removes their attachments, tags, locally stored question definitions, drafts and reminders. It keeps app preferences, stored API keys and your purchase status. If iCloud is enabled now or later, the deletions can sync to other devices. Records that have not yet downloaded from iCloud are outside this local deletion. Copies exported or sent elsewhere are not removed.

If you used Stories in an earlier test version, those legacy records are retained for export and sync compatibility. They are not converted into answers. This release has no Stories browsing or deletion screen, and Delete all moments does not delete them. Contact support if you need help with legacy records; do not send private exports.

All photos

Open Settings → All photos to browse the latest 20 photos saved in your moments for free. If you have more, tap View all photos with Plus to see purchase options. Plus and an active seven-day trial unlock the full photo library. Photos are grouped by date; tap one to view the original. Deleted moments are excluded. If Plus ends, this overview returns to the latest 20 photos. Your photos remain saved and can still be viewed from their moments and included in free ZIP exports.

Plus, trials and restoring purchases

Open Settings from Home and tap Unlock Plus to see the trial and lifetime purchase options. If you already have active Plus access, the same card shows View Plus.

Plus includes the full photo library, PDF memory-book export, the Evolta Blue and Apricot Paper themes, six exclusive room items and space to display up to five items. Greenado Field and Midnight Signal are free. Core recording, Questions, search, tags, statistics, readable ZIP export, optional iCloud sync and App Lock stay free. AI is unavailable for all users in this release.

Lifetime access is a one-time purchase, with no subscription renewal. The Plus page shows the App Store price for your region. If it shows Price unavailable, use Reload price and check your App Store availability and connection; the app will not substitute a price. Your free features remain available.

If you are eligible, Start free trial / 7 days appears alongside Get lifetime access and the one-time price. The trial is available once per Apple Account used for App Store purchases. Read the explanation and complete Apple's confirmation to start seven consecutive days of Plus access. Starting the trial is separate from buying lifetime access. It ends automatically, with no charge or subscription to cancel. When it ends, paid features require a separate lifetime purchase; your moments and PDFs already exported remain yours. Restoring purchases or reinstalling the app does not restart the trial.

Starting the trial and restoring purchases may require a connection to the App Store. There is no separate Between Days time-check service or requirement to connect to one whenever you open the app. Keep your iPhone date and time correct. If access cannot be verified, tap Try again or Restore with the Apple Account used for the original purchase. Retrying or restoring does not extend the original seven-day period; free journaling and saved records remain available.

If the free trial is temporarily unavailable, tap Retry free trial to load it again. This retry does not start a purchase. Lifetime access remains a separate option, and the app does not invent a trial offer when the App Store has not returned one.

During the trial, Continue with Plus returns to the app; it does not buy anything. You can also choose to buy Plus in the same card. If the app cannot check your existing access, tap Try again or Restore instead of starting another purchase. A pending purchase needs Apple's approval before access can be granted.

Use Restore on the Plus page with the Apple Account used for the purchase or trial. If you have an older monthly subscription, manage or cancel renewal in your Apple Account settings. This release does not sell new monthly subscriptions. Deleting the app or buying lifetime access does not automatically cancel an existing subscription. Apple handles eligible refund requests.

For a purchase that does not work as expected, contact support with the product name and a description of the problem. You can also use Apple's refund process; your statutory consumer rights are not limited by these instructions. Do not send payment-card details or an unredacted receipt.

Write a review

Open Settings → Write a review to leave a public review on the App Store. For help with a specific issue or a private request, use the email below.

Contact the developer

Email support@betweendays.net with the app version from Settings, your iOS version, what you expected and the steps that led to the issue. If useful, include a screenshot with private information covered. Do not send API keys, passwords or your journal export.

I cannot access your local journal or private iCloud database through a developer server. A short fictional example is usually enough to explain a problem.

For a privacy request or complaint, email the same address and describe what you need. Sending support email is optional. Its handling and retention are explained in the Privacy Policy; do not include sensitive journal content just to identify yourself.
